Meet Hawa Kamara

Copy of IMG_1423.JPG

Born and raised in The Bronx, Hawa has been interested in different ways of storytelling since she was a kid. She was always a choir kid, but really started off her career strong in the fourth grade, when she was cast as a "Yellow Brick Road Girl" in The Wiz. From there, she has been entranced with the world of theatre.

She continued her training at Fiorello H. Laguardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts as a vocal performance major. She then had the honor of attending Young Arts as a finalist in theatre in 2019. She went on to study Musical Theatre at Emerson College, where she graduated in spring of 2023.

Most recently, she made her professional debut playing Wendy in the Peter Pan National Tour, followed by joining the ensemble in the original Seoul production of The Great Gatsby. In her free time, you can catch her deeply analyzing sitcoms or writing her own comedy sketches; she hopes to continue to tell stories that are typically undertold in any platform possible!

Reviews:

"Wendy is played by Hawa Kamara who.... projects a strong female protagonist. "-The Stages of MN

"The acting standouts came from all over the map, the highlights of which were Hawa Kamara as Wendy....absolutely shone onstage with a gorgeous earnestness and sharp comedic timing. Wendy is a very necessary contrast to the bumbling Lost Boys, and Kamara played the parts of logician and big sister swimmingly.” - DC Theatre Arts

"The show’s heart, though, belongs to Hawa Kamara as Wendy -- the kindhearted, witty leader destined for medical school.” - Chatham Life and Style
